Objectif(s)
This course is an introduction to distributed parameters systems i.e. systems governed by state space partial differential equations. Rather than a formal introduction to the theory (semigroup approach), we prefer an intuitive and operational introduction to basic definitions from partial differential equations and reduction/discretization methods. Then the students are requested to develop a project which includes a modelling, a numerical and a control parts on an example selected jointly with the teacher.

Basic definitions regarding partial differential equations (PDEs) - State space modelling with PDEs, including classical systems of conservation laws and port-based approaches - Discretization and spatial reduction methods (finite difference schemes, pseudo-spectral methods, frequency domain approaches) - student project. Examples from previous projects subjects are: membranes (electro-accoustic speakers) or beam (vibrations) control problems, diffusion problems (counterfeit money detection and localization, heat diffusion control, disease propagation and epidemiology), population dynamics (spatially distributed prey-predators models, ecosystems management, population age distribution), plasma control problems, shallow water flows and water management problems, traffic control, …
