Goals

This unit of study provides an introduction to electromagnetics.
By the end of the course a successful student should:
*be able to understand the concept of electric and magnetic fields
*be familiar and with solution techniques in electrostatics and magnetostatics
*understand the behavior of energy storage in dielectric and magnetic materials
*understand Maxwell’s equations for time dependent electromagnetic fields

Content

1-General Introduction
2- Vector analysis Review: gradient, divergence and curl, line integral, surface integral, and volume integrals
3-Electrostatics
Coulomb’s Law, Gauss’ Law, charge and current distributions, electric potential, conductors, dielectric media, electrostatic boundary conditions, capacitors and electric energy
4-Magnetostatics
Magnetic forces, Biot-Savart Law, Ampere’s Law, magnetic vector potential, magnetic materials, magnetostatic boundary conditions, inductance and magnetic energy
5-Electrodymanics
Lenz’s Law , Maxwell’s equation, Faraday’s Law, electrodymanics



Prerequisites

Vector analysis

Tests

DS (10%)+ examen final (90%)
