Sara, 2025 Graduate: "IMESS is a game-changer"
From courts to code: a social butterfly’s journey through the challenges of IMESS.
I’m Sara, an Egyptian engineer with a Bachelor of electronics and computer engineering. I joined the IMESS Master’s program at Grenoble INP - ESISAR in 2024/2025. My journey so far has been a blend of technical expertise and global exploration.
I’ve always been a social butterfly, thriving in environments where I can connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Whether it’s through social activities, collaborative projects, or just sharing stories, I believe in the power of human connections to spark innovation and growth.
A tech enthusiast with a global perspective
One of my greatest passions is tennis, a sport I’ve played for years. It’s not just a game for me: it’s been a life-changer. Tennis has shaped my mindset, teaching me resilience, discipline, and the importance of strategy, both on and off the court. So, in a nutshell, I’m a tech enthusiast with a global perspective, a love for connecting with people, and a tennis racket always within reach. Excited to be here and looking forward to what’s next!
Reflecting on my time at IMESS, I can confidently say it’s been one of the most enriching experiences of my life, both technically and socially. On the technical side, it was a game-changer. One of the things I said when I got into ESISAR is:
IMESS introduced me to materials and technicalities that challenged my brain capabilities in a way I didn’t know it existed. I loved it, and I grew through it.”
What makes this program stand out is how deeply practical it is. The labs aren’t just tasks; they’re real-world projects that mirror what you’d do in a professional setting. They’re designed to prepare you for the job market and give your CV a serious boost. I loved the hands-on approach: applying what I learned, failing, trying again, and iterating until I got it right. Was I the best? Absolutely not and it's okay. But I’m grateful for the challenge that pushed me to learn things I never thought I could.
A step into real world
Another highlight is the internship component. IMESS doesn’t just focus on theory, it forces you to step into the real world. You have to find an internship, navigate the work environment, and push yourself beyond your limits. It’s an incredible opportunity to grow, both professionally and personally, and it opens doors you might not have even known were there.
I definitely recommend anyone to take this program if they love to dive deep technically, not just theoretically. If I could give advice to someone considering this program and if I were this person, I’d tell myself: “It’s okay to feel lost, to feel stupid, or to struggle with things you’ve never encountered before. it's okay to feel lost in a new environment, new content, new system. It's okay if you are not the best as you always felt in your community as it was kind of a comfort zone. It’s okay to step out of it and not be the best right away. Just keep trying. The growth you’ll experience, both in your skills and as a person, is worth it.”
Finally, I want to thank IMESS for this incredible journey and everyone who supported me along the way and made me feel safe to explore, fail, and grow without hesitation. And to ESISAR, thank you for this opportunity, I hope to pay it forward someday and add value to this amazing community.
