A BRAFITEC Alumnus back to Esisar for his PhD at the LCIS Lab

My name is Arthur Silva Souza, I am 27 years old, and I am from Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. I am currently pursuing a PhD at the LCIS Laboratory, in collaboration with Idyllic Technology.

My Background

I hold both a Bachelor's degree (2021) and a Master’s degree (2023) in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG). During my studies, I had the opportunity to participate in the BRAFITEC Exchange Program* (2018-2019) at ESISAR - Grenoble INP, specializing in Embedded Systems Electronics. This experience was fundamental in shaping my technical expertise and international perspective.

My professional background spans Microelectronics, Radiofrequency (RF) systems, and sensor design, with applications in energy and industrial systems. Over the years, I have worked on projects related to integrated circuit design, electromagnetic simulation, and hardware development for electronic and RF systems.

My PhD Research

My doctoral research focuses on the development of a short impulse generator and sampler for ultra-wideband (UWB) short-range radar applications. This work is closely related to the advancements in chipless RFID technology, an area that has been actively researched at LCIS and Idyllic Technology.

A key challenge in this field is optimizing the RF impulse generation and reception (RF sampler) blocks, which are crucial for system performance. My research aligns with this goal, as it aims to design more efficient and cost-effective solutions for these components, contributing to the continuous improvement of chipless RFID technology.

The innovative environment and collaborative spirit at Esisar make it the ideal place to push the boundaries of technology and applied research.

Being Back at Esisar

Returning to Esisar for my PhD is both an exciting and nostalgic experience. My time here as an exchange student was a defining moment in my academic and personal journey, filled with challenges, learning, and great memories. Walking through the same corridors and working in the same environment where I studied years ago brings back many memories and reinforces how much I have grown since then. Now, as a researcher, I feel privileged to contribute to projects at LCIS and Idyllic Technology.

A Few Personal Thoughts

Beyond research, I enjoy learning and exploring new fields, as well as exchanging ideas with others. I also really like travelling and listening to music from different styles, which are part of my daily life and bring me inspiration.
