Dipal: “The IMESS program and Valence City: genuinely precious experiences”

Dipal was part of the inaugural Master's Class in 2018-2019, and the program helped him secure a PhD position in a research lab at the University of Florida.

My name is Dipal Halder and I am from Khulna, a city in the Southern part of Bangladesh. I have completed my bachelor’s in engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), and my main subject was Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
After completing my bachelor's, I started searching for a master’s program specializing in embedded systems design and security. I have obtained an IDEX scholarship in the IMESS master’s program* in Grenoble INP - ESISAR. The main reason to choose this Master was the curriculum, along with the school's reputation for this specific field.

My most enjoyable time outside my home country

I think I spent my most enjoyable time outside my home country when I was in the IMESS program. It was so great. Valence is a very beautiful city with a lot of activities. Also, the students in my year group were friendly. All the professors and the staff in Grenoble INP - ESISAR were so helpful that they made our lives easier.
I travelled a lot during my Master’s year. We have made a tour together with the other master’s students. Among them, Ioanna and Julia were my closest friends and we enjoyed ourselves a lot together. I have visited lots of different cities in France and other countries too. I have made so many good memories and good friends that I still miss Valence a lot. Enjoy the time you spend in Valence as this can be one of the best times in your life! The experiences that the IMESS program and Valence can offer are genuinely precious.

The combination of theory and practical labs: the greatest strength of the Master

The master's program is intended for students who like to work in the embedded systems, hardware security, or SoC design fields. I have learned different skills with the hands-on project experiences included in the program. I recommend the Master to future students: it will help them to get knowledge along with good practical experience. The combination of theory and practical labs is the greatest strength of this program. Also, during the internship time, we have the opportunity to work in a company or in a lab, which can help us to apply what we learned in practice.
The expertise that I have developed during my IMESS year has helped me to get a position in the Lab in which I am currently working. Currently, I am a PhD student at the University of Florida, where I am working on SoC design and Hardware security.
