Goals

  • Knowledge of the various families and structures of static power inverter.
  • Knowledge of the basic model of the DC motor (in view of its use with inverters).

NB: the objective is not to become an expert, but to be able to start the study of any structure with clear notions of the topic.

  • Introduction of Power Electronics
    • Balanced Three-phases electrics : current, voltage, real power, reactive and apparent power (recall).
    • Defintion of real supply voltage and current
    • Definition of familly of static converter
  • Static Converters
    • AC/ DC
      • Components : diode - thyristor
      • Three-phase, half-wave circuit rectifier
      • Three-phase, full-wave circuit rectifier
    • DC/ DC
      • Switched-mode conversion
      • Continuous / Discontinuous mode
      • Buck – Boost – Bridge
      • Energy stored converter
      • Flyback
    • DC/AC
      • Three-phase inverters
      • Pulse-width modulation control
  • DC motors

Laboratory session

  • Practical Work: Electrical switches
  • Practical Work: Rectifier

Prerequisites

Electrical network/Circuit
Basics of Electromagnetism
Circuit laws : Kirchhoff's circuit laws, Current law, Voltage law, Ohm's law
Transient analysis of linear circuits
• Diodes / Transistors / Operational amplifier (ideal and real)
• Single phase power / apparent active and reactive power
