Esisar team wins second place in the world’s biggest student cyber security contest!

On November 10-12 2016, a team of four students and their coach David Hély, associate professor in Esisar, went to Brooklyn to compete in the final round of the annual Embedded Security Challenge organized for the NYU Cyber Security Awareness Week (CSAW).
Dealing with hardware and software, CSAW is the biggest student cyber security contest in the world, with, this year, sister events held at NYU Abu Dhabi and at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). Esisar participated for the fourth time to the prestigious challenge Embedded Security Challenge, renowned as the toughest event at CSAW. The contest deals with the design of secure processors and tackles malware embedded in the underlying hardware of electronics devices, one of the most frightening security threats. This year, for the finals, seven teams competed to defend against one of the most common security bugs: memory corruption.

It is the second time that an Esisar team is awarded second place (see below the video with the climaxing moment when our team is awarded). First place went to UC Florida and the third prize to New Hampshire University.

The challenge was also the occasion for our students to attend keynote presentations on security (for example, one was dedicated to Homeland security), workshops and an industry fair.

Cyril Bresh, Adrien Michelet-Gignoux, Thomas Meyer, Laurent Amato and their professor David Hély made a brilliant performance! Congrats!
