Goals

This course focuses on the knowledge and methods which are necessary to implant real time control laws on complex experimental facilities. Among others, the attendant will learn how to choose among existing control laws the most suitable one for a specific physical system and also the practical considerations needed for their emplantation.

    • The state space approach to dynamical systems modelling
    • Operating point and linearization for nonlinear systems
    • Simulation models vs. control models
    • Some fundamental laws and relations
  • Criteria, constraints and control design
  • numerical aspects of digital control systems
    • numerical implantation of discrete time filters (frequency domain approach)
    • fixed point arithmetics and control design
    • control of linear systems with large delays
      • Padé approximant
      • The Smith predictor PI controller
      • Internal Model Control
